"Gone" is a personal story about spaces and memories left behind after the loss of loved ones. It is dedicated to my grandfather.
My father lost both of his parents in the last 2 years.

A year after my grandfather's death, my grandmother left her home to spend the summer at their summerhouse.
At there, she passed away at the age of 75.
She used to think these porcelain elephants represent generations of our family, starting from my grandfther...
My grandfather was a flute player, and a member of Turkish Presidential Symphony Orchestra.
He then specialized in manufacturing musical instruments and made 3 silver flutes in 1950s
After WWII They moved to Europe for my grandfather's professional career.
They left their kids behind with my grandmother's sisters.
A thief broke into their apartment and stole one of the two remaining flutes. My grandfather said "It was old and broken anyway".
My grandmother, together with her mom and sisters, migrated to Turkey from Former Yugoslavia in 1939.
My grandmother would spend her time knitting by the window.

During family dinners my grandmother would sit at the right end of the table in order to be closer to the kitchen.

The roof started to decay during this fall.
My grandparents are buried in different towns. Their pillows still remain side by side.
My father waited for me while I was photographing his parent's aparment in December 2010.
